If a Komodo National Park boat trip is the focus of your visit, stay near the town center and harbor, close to restaurants and the port. For a quieter setting and harbor views, choose a hillside stay; if you plan to spend more time relaxing at your accommodation, an island resort may suit you best. Labuan Bajo Komodo Airport (LBJ) connects with Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali, and there are also direct flights from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK).

What kind of trip is Labuan Bajo best for?

Labuan Bajo is a port town on the western side of Flores and the gateway to Komodo National Park. It is well suited to a 2–3 day boat trip after a short flight from Bali, with meals at local restaurants and sunset views from a rooftop in town.

A day boat trip can combine island hikes to see Komodo dragons, views from Padar Island, and time at beaches and snorkeling spots. If you want to spend several days at sea, choose a liveaboard and stay overnight on the boat.

The town has seafood restaurants and cafés, so there is plenty to do when you are not on a boat. In the evening, enjoy seafood by the harbor in Kampung Ujung or watch the sunset from a rooftop.

Where should you stay?

Town center and harbor

A good fit for first-time visitors or short stays who prioritize restaurants, conveniences, and easy access to boat departures. It is convenient for minimizing transfers before and after boat trips and having dinner at a restaurant in town.

The main nearby transport hubs are Komodo Airport (LBJ) and Labuan Bajo Harbor. There is no railway station or public transit rail service.

Because it is close to the harbor, you may hear boats and traffic depending on your accommodation’s location. Check the room’s location before booking.

Hillside stays

A good choice for travelers seeking harbor views and a relatively quiet setting. Consider it if you want to enjoy sunsets from your accommodation or relax a little away from the bustle of town.

The town center and harbor are the main nearby transport hubs, though you may need a vehicle depending on where you stay.

Hillside roads and stairs can be steep. If you have limited mobility or a lot of luggage, check vehicle access and the slope first.

Island resorts

An island resort is a good fit if relaxing at your accommodation and enjoying the beach and sea are the focus of your trip.

The nearest transport hub is the boat dock specified by your accommodation. There is no direct connection to mainland stations or roads.

Check boat schedules and weather-related travel alternatives before booking. Getting to restaurants in town or tour departure points may require a separate boat trip.
